The Sasolburg workshop that's been here 30 years and plans to stay.

Break Even Auto started in 1993 as a one-man operation with a simple idea: do honest work at a fair price and let the results speak for themselves. Three decades later, the tools are better and the team is bigger, but the principle hasn't changed.

The story

What began as a small workshop grew into a full-service operation in Sasolburg, handling everything from routine maintenance to complete engine rebuilds. None of that growth came from advertising. It came from one customer telling the next.

We've never chased volume or tried to be the biggest workshop in town. We'd rather do fewer jobs well than rush through more. That has kept people coming back for decades. Some now bring in cars for their children that we first serviced for their parents.

Over the years we've taken on fleet maintenance for businesses across the Vaal Triangle, invested in dealer-level diagnostic equipment, and grown the team. The core of the work hasn't changed: find the problem, explain it honestly, fix it properly, and charge fairly.

Approved & accredited

What our accreditation means for you

Anyone can call themselves a good mechanic. AA Quality Approved status and MIWA membership are the part you don't have to take on trust. Both are awarded by outside bodies that check how a workshop actually runs.

AA Quality Approved is the Automobile Association's standard for workmanship and fair practice. MIWA, the Motor Industry Workshop Association, is part of the RMI (Retail Motor Industry Organisation) and holds its members to a code of conduct you can hold us to.

For us it lines up with the name over the door. “Break Even” was always about fair dealing: charging what a job is worth, not what we can get away with. The accreditation just puts a third party behind that promise.

How we work

Four principles that guide every job — from a simple oil change to a full engine rebuild.

01

Honest diagnosis

We tell you what we find — the full picture, not just the expensive parts. If it doesn’t need fixing, we’ll say so.

02

Fair pricing

The name says it. We price to be fair, not to maximise margins. You get a clear quote before any work starts.

03

No shortcuts

We use quality parts, follow manufacturer specs, and do the work properly. A job done right the first time costs less in the long run.

04

Standing behind it

When your name is on the building, you don’t hide from callbacks. If something isn’t right, we make it right.
